SMITH, George Washington, a Representative from Blair and Huntingdon counties; born, October 11, 1800 in Hagerstown, Washington County, Md.; potter; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1856 term; farmer; elected, sheriff, Tipton, Ia. (1865-1868); elected, mayor, Tipton (1868-1871); elected, assessor, Tipton (1871-1874); died, March 4, 1880 in Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa; interred, Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, Cedar County, Iowa.
