PALMER, Gideon Wilbur, a Representative from Luzerne County; born, April 18, 1818 in Hopkinton, Washington County, RI; major and paymaster, United States Volunteers Paymaster’s Department, United States Army (1863-1864, Civil War); miller; farmer; justice of the peace; elected, sheriff, Luzerne County (1850-1853); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1856 term; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Humphreysville (1859-1861); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1872-1873); died, March 27, 1881 in Glenburn, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hickory Grove Cemetery, Waverly, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania.
