FERNON, Thomas Sargent, a Representative from Philadelphia County; born, April 19, 1819 in Kensington, Philadelphia County, Pa.; portrait painter; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1845, 1846 and 1847; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1850-1852); investor and president, North Pennsylvania Railroad; president, Chester Valley Railroad; publisher, United States Mining and Railroad Register (1857-1869); author; poet; died, June 10, 1896 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
