HINCHMAN, Benjamin M., a Representative from Philadelphia City; cloth and dry goods merchant; chair, Democratic Whigs of Philadelphia (1836); elected, common council, Philadelphia (1836); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1837-1838 and 1838-1839 terms; reelected to the House for 4 consecutive terms thereafter; secretary, Reliance Mutual Insurance Co. of Philadelphia (1845-1863); died, February of 1864 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
