GILDER, John, a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, February 5, 1786 in Delaware; cabinetmaker; elected, director, Guardians of the Poor, Philadelphia (1826-1827); elected, common council, Philadelphia (1831-1838); elected, assessor, Philadelphia (1839); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1845 term; elected, commissioner, Philadelphia County (1846-1847); died, December 3, 1855 in Flushing, Queens County, New York.
