TREGO, Charles B., a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, November 25, 1794 in West Makefield, Bucks County, Pa.; school teacher (1812-1834); city delegate, Williamsport Convention on Rail (1836); elected as an Oppositionist to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1835-1836 term; reelected to the House as a Whig for the 1836-1837 term; assistant state geologist, Geological Survey of Pennsylvania (1837-1841); reelected to the House for the 1842 term and for 5 more consecutive terms thereafter; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1848 term; elected, alderman, Philadelphia (1844); professor, geology and minerology, University of Pennsylvania; elected, common council, Philadelphia (1856-1861, president, 1858-1861); elected, school director, 14th Ward, Philadelphia (1857-1858); unsuccessful campaign, mayor, Philadelphia (1862); died, November 10, 1874 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Wrightstown Friends Meeting Cemetery, Wrightstown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
