STURDEVANT, John, a Representative from Luzerne, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties; born, June 20, 1796 in Braintrim Township, Wyoming County, Pa.; major, 2nd Brigade, 8th Division, Pennsylvania Militia (1830); land surveyor; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1838-1839 term; elected, commissioner, Wyoming County (1842-1845); reelected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; land agent; elected, surveyor of Luzerne County (1857-1867); proprietor, J. Sturdevant and Co., glass and pottery merchant; died, September 6, 1879 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
