SHAEFFER, Bartram Augustus, a Representative from Lancaster County; born, September 16, 1823 in Pennsylvania; attended, Franklin College (now Franklin and Marshall College), 1846; major general, Pennsylvania Militia (Lancaster, Chester, and Delaware Counties); attorney (1847-1864); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1850 and 1851; partner, Cordelia Furnace, iron production; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1857-1860); solicitor, Columbia and Maryland Line Railroad Company (1863); died, December 5, 1864 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Woodward Hill Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
