HOWER, Dr. Joseph B., a Representative from Lancaster County; born, circa 1814 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; physician; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1848; proprietor, drug store; established, Farmers’ and Miners’ Journal (1856); physician-in-charge, Dauphin County Hospital (1863-1866) unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1869); died, May 17, 1886 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Fernwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, Lansdowne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
