SHELLY, Abraham, a Representative from Lancaster County; born in Lancaster County, Pa., July 21, 1797; farmer; appointed, tax collector, Mount Joy, Pa. (1832); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1846 and 1847; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1848); president, County Whig Convention (1851); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1854); director, Mount Joy Savings Institution, later Mount Joy Bank (1859-1861); died, March 26, 1870 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Erisman Mennonite Cemetery, Manheim, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
