HOOD, Alexander H., a Representative from Lancaster County; born, April 23, 1808 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pa.; shoemaker (1822-1827); teacher (1828-1836); clerk, Pennsylvania Secretary of State office (1837-1838); editor and owner, Lancaster Union (1839-1842); elected, clerk of the Orphans’ Court, Lancaster County (1839-1842); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1842; studied law under Thaddeus Stevens; lawyer (1844-1874); unsuccessful campaign, judge, Lancaster County (1861); presidential appointee, collector of internal revenue, Lancaster County (1862-1866); died, May 25, 1875 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; interred, Lancaster Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
