SANDERSON, John Philipp, a Representative from Lebanon County; born, February 13, 1818 in Lebanon County, Pa.; colonel, 15th United States Army Infantry (1861-1864); appointed, Provost Marshall General of the Department of Missouri (1864); lawyer (1839-1864); editor and publisher, Lebanon Demokrat; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1844; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1846-1848); publisher, Philadelphia Daily News (1847-1853); chief clerk, United States War Department; died, October 14, 1864 in St. Louis, Missouri; interred, Ferncliff Cemetery, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio.
