CHRIST, Benjamin Caspar, a Representative of Schuylkill County; born, September 12, 1822 in Minersville, Schuylkill County, Pa.; lieutenant colonel, 5th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); colonel, 50th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861-1864, Civil War); brevet brigadier general, United States Army Volunteers (1864, Civil War); coal merchant; hotel proprietor; elected, president, Minersville school board; elected, treasurer, Schuylkill County (1848-1849); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1855 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1856 term; died, March 27, 1869 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, First United Methodist Church Cemetery, Minersville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania.
