BENEDICT, Samuel, a Representative from Luzerne County; born, February 7, 1798 in Connecticut; proprietor, Benedict & Pugh’s Store, coal merchants; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1847); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1848); farmer; died, September 21, 1865 in Coalsmouth, Kanawha County, West Virginia; interred, College Hill Cemetery, Saint Albans, Kanawha County, West Virginia.
