ALEXANDER, Dr. Joseph West, a Representative from Washington County; born, April 15, 1815 in North Strabane Township, Washington County, Pa.; A.M., Jefferson College, 1838; attended, Jefferson Medical School (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1840; physician; assistant surgeon, Company S, 26th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862, Civil War); surgeon, 160th Regiment, 15th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry (1862-1865, Civil War); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1853 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1854 term; physician, Morganza Reform School (1882-1898); trustee, president, Jefferson Academy (1888-1898); died, April 20, 1892 in Canonsburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Spring Cemetery, Canonsburg, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
