FARGO, Howard Lynn, a Representative from Armstrong, Butler, and Mercer Counties; born in Clearfield, Clearfield County, Pa., April 18, 1928; graduated, Clearfield High School, 1946; B.S., Indiana State Teachers College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania), 1951; M.Ed., The Pennsylvania State University, 1957; served, "U.S.S. Toledo," United States Navy (1946-1948); public school teacher (1951-1957); Certified Public Accountant, private practice (1957-1980); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in a Special Election on June 23, 1981; Sworn-In, July 21, 1981 to serve the remaining 1981 term; reelected to 9 consecutive terms thereafter; appointed, Select Committee on Seasonal Farm Laborers (1984); appointed, House Select Committee on Long Term Care (1986-1988); appointed, Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (1987-1988); appointed, Legislative Audit Advisory Commission (1987-1998; chair, 1997-2000); elected, Republican Caucus Administrator (1989-1994); elected, Republican Caucus Chairman (1995-2000); appointed, Joint State Government Commission (1995-2000); not a candidate for reelection to the House (2000); died, December 22, 2023 in Florida.
