McCONNELL, Alexander, a Representative from Indiana County; born, December 10, 1798 in Woodcock Valley (now McConnellstown), Huntingdon County, Pa.; private, Quartermasters Department, United States Army, Washington, DC (1861-1865, Civil War); salt farmer; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1851; reelected to the House in 1852, 1853 and 1854; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House as an American Party candidate (1855); died, March 29, 1876 in Conemaugh Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; interred, Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
