LAIRD, Harrison Perry, a Representative from Westmoreland County; born, 1814 in Murrysville, Westmoreland County, Pa.; graduated, Jefferson College (now Washington and Jefferson College), 1837; attended, Transylvania University, 1837-1838; honorary doctorate of law, Franklin and Marshall College, 1890; principal, Madison Academy, Clark County, Ky. (1837-1838); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Locust Dale, Pa. (1840-1843, 1844-1846); attorney (1842-1897); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1848, 1849 and 1850 terms; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1881-1884); trustee, Franklin and Marshall College; died, October 16, 1897 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Murrysville Cemetery, Murrysville, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
