ECKELS, Francis Huston, Sr., a Representative from Cumberland County; born, April 1, 1791 in West Pennsboro Township, Cumberland County, Pa.; cooper; merchant; scrivener; farmer; justice of the peace (1818-1860); elected, commissioner, Cumberland County (1829-1831); school director, New Kingston; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Hogestown (1841, 1843-1844); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1843; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senate (1844); died, February 6, 1860 in New Kingston, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Silver Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
