KNOX, John Colton, a Representative from Tioga County; born, February 18, 1817 in Knoxville, Tioga County, Pa.; judge advocate, United States Army (1861-1866, Civil War); studied law, William Garretson; lawyer; appointed, Deputy Attorney General (1840-1842); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1846 and 1847 terms; appointed, judge, Indiana, Armstrong and Westmoreland Counties (1847-1854); elected, associate judge, Pennsylvania Supreme Court (1854-1858, resigned); appointed, Pennsylvania Attorney General (1858-1861); died, August 26, 1880 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Wellsboro Cemetery, Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
