SMITH, Jesse B., a Representative from Crawford County; born, October 7, 1817 in Hayfield Township, Crawford County, Pa.; quartermaster, Pennsylvania Militia (1842); blacksmith in the carriage trade (1840-1863); farmer (1843-1908); partner, grist mill; director, Pittsburg & Erie Railroad (1853); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1853); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1854, 1855, 1856); elected, council, Titusville; elected, treasurer, Crawford County (1862); proprietor, oil wells (1865-1908); elected, school board of directors, Foxburg (1876-1880); director and vice president, Foxburg Bank (1877-1892); director, Commercial Bank of Titusville (1883-1899); died, May 14, 1908 in Titusville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Conneautville Cemetery, Conneautville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
