PORTER, James, a Representative from Crawford County; born, July 26, 1798 in Lancaster County, Pa.; lieutenant colonel, Pennsylvania Militia; butcher; elected, coroner, Crawford County (1836-1839); elected, sheriff, Crawford County (1839); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1849 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1850 term; laborer; died, April 22, 1884 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
