DICKEY, Jesse Collum, a Representative from Chester County; born, February 27, 1808 in New Castle, Lawrence County, Pa.; graduated, New London Academy, 1828; quartermaster and paymaster, United States Army (Civil War); teacher (6 years); farmer; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1843, 1844 and 1845 terms; established, Hopewell Academy; elected, United States Congress (1849-1851); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to Congress (1851); died, February, 19, 1891; interred, New London Presbyterian Church Cemetery, New London Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
