WHITAKER, Joseph Musgrove, Jr., a Representative from Chester County; born, March 29, 1789 in Pennsylvania; nail manufacturer; proprietor, Gibraltar Forge; co-owner, Cumberland Iron and Nail Works, NJ; ironmaster, Phoenix Iron Works; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1843; proprietor, Durham Furnaces, Principio Furnace, Elkton Iron Works, Havre-de-Grace Iron Works, Saucon Iron Company, Jos. & Geo. P. Whitaker, and Whitakers and Couden; died, November 30, 1870 in Mont Clare, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania; interred, Morris Cemetery, Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania.
