BAILEY (BAILY), Joseph, a Representative from Chester County; born, March 18, 1810 in Pennsbury Township, Chester County, Pa.; major, Pennsylvania Militia; hatter; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1840 term; proprietor, iron furnace; elected, Pennsylvania State Senate (1843-1845, 1851-1853); elected, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1854-1855); lawyer (1860-1885); elected, United States Congress (1861-1865); elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention (1872-1873); died, August 26, 1885 in Baileysburg (now Miller Township), Perry County, Pennsylvania; interred, Bloomfield Cemetery, New Bloomfield, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
