MONTGOMERY, John Gallagher, a Representative from Columbia and Montour Counties; born, June 27, 1805 in Northumberland County, Pa.; graduated, Washington College (now Washington and Jefferson College), 1824; lawyer (1827-1857); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1856 term; elected, United States Congress (1857); died while in office of Congress, April 24, 1857 in Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania; interred, Episcopal Cemetery, Danville, Montour County, Pennsylvania; cenotaph, Congressional Cemetery, Washington District of Columbia.
