PEARCE, Stewart, a Representative from Columbia County; born, November 26, 1820 in Kingston, Luzerne County, Pa.; attended, Cazenovia Seminary; attended, Franklin Academy; studied law, S.F. Headley; farmer; engaged, milling business; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1847 and 1848 terms; reelected to the House as a Whig for the 1849 term; appointed, collector of tolls, Pennsylvania Canal and Columbia Railroad (1850-1852); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Wilkes-Barre (1869-1877); died, October 13, 1882 in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hollenback Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.
