MEEK, John Breckenridge, a Representative from Centre and Clearfield Counties; born, June 5, 1797 in Huntingdon County (now Centre County), Pennsylvania; Methodist reverend; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1848 term; reelected to the House for the 1849 and 1850 terms; presidential appointee, clerk, Washington, D.C. (1857-1861); presidential appointee, chaplain, Howard Hospital (now Howard University Hospital) (Civil War); presidential appointee, chaplain, U.S. Hospital at Falls Church, Va. (Civil War); died, November 28, 1868 in Washington, District of Columbia; interred, Meek’s Cemetery, Fairbrook, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
