MacMANUS, James, a Representative from Centre and Clearfield Counties; born, May 17, 1801 in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pa.; studied law, Thomas Burnside; lawyer (1826-1881); appointed, Deputy Attorney General, Clearfield County (1827); appointed, Attorney General, Clearfield County (1827-1829); appointed, Deputy Attorney General, Centre and Clearfield Counties (1829-1835, 1839-1845); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1842 term; reelected to the House for the 1844 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1843 and 1845 terms; counsel for the commissioners, Centre County (11 years); died, May 5, 1883 in Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania; interred, Union Cemetery, Bellefonte, Centre County, Pennsylvania
