KIRK, James J., a Representative from Bedford County; born, January 24, 1806 in Lack Township, Mifflin County (now Juniata County), Pa.; farmer; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Warfordsburg (1837-1842); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1842); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1848 and 1849 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1850 term; died, January 20, 1885 in Bethel Township, Fulton County, Pennsylvania; interred, Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Warfordsburg, Fulton County, Pennsylvania.
