BURNS, James, a Representative from Bedford County; born, 1796; colonel, Pennsylvania Militia (1832-1833); farmer; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1846 and 1847 terms; tavern keeper; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1857); elected, associate judge, Bedford County (1862-1865) died, February 3, 1878 in Juniata Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Schellsburg Cemetery, Schellsburg, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
