METZGER, John, a Representative from Bedford County; born, June 22, 1794 in Bedford County, Pa.; tavern keeper; elected, sheriff, Bedford County (1830-1833); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1835-1836 term; reelected to the House for the 1844 and 1845 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1846 term; unsuccessful campaign, director of the poor, Bedford County (1856); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Dry Ridge (1861-1864); died, March 14, 1864 in Juniata Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Trinity United Church of Christ Cemetery, Juniata Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
