SIPES, John, a Representative from Bedford County; born, March 4, 1798 in Bedford County, Pa.; brigadier general, Division 12, Brigade 1, Bedford County Militia (1842); farmer; elected, commissioner, Bedford County (1836); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1837-1838 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1838-1839 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1840); reelected to the House for the 1843 and 1847 terms; died, January 13, 1881 in Lynn Town, Knox County, Illinois; interred, Galva Cemetery, Galva, Knox County, Illinois.
