PORTER, John Miller, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, July 1, 1823 in Pennsylvania; first lieutenant, Company C, 92nd Regiment, Ninth Pennsylvania Cavalry (1861-1863, Civil War); captain, Company C, 92nd Regiment, Ninth Pennsylvania Cavalry (1863-1864, Civil War); major, 92nd Regiment, Ninth Pennsylvania Cavalry (1864-1865, Civil War); salt merchant; engaged, real estate; proprietor, coal mines; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1851); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1853 and 1854 terms; member, Allegheny County Republican Committee; died, December 3, 1865 in Tarentum, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Prospect Cemetery, Brackenridge, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
