HILANDS, Alexander, a Representative from Allegheny County; born, August 6, 1813 in Ross, Allegheny County, Pa.; farmer; elected, justice of the peace, Ross (1840); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1845, 1846 and 1847 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1848 term; appointed, deputy clerk of Quarter Sessions (1851-1854); director, The Pennsylvania Mutual Live Stock Insurance Company (1853); elected, clerk of courts, Allegheny County (1854); elected, sheriff of Pittsburgh (1855-1858); elected, judge of elections, Allegheny County (1861); elected, clerk of Orphan’s Court (1862-1880); died, April 29, 1880 in Allegheny City (now Pittsburgh), Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hiland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Perrysville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
