WISE, William W., a Representative from Armstrong, Clarion and Jefferson Counties; born, April 27, 1827 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pa.; private, Company D, 2nd Pennsylvania Infantry, United States Army (1847-1848, Mexican American War); captain, Company K, 8th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1861, Civil War); brevet major, Company I, 15th United States Infantry (1862, Civil War); printer, Indiana Register (1841); printer and co-owner, Jeffersonian Democrat and Elk County Advertiser (1849-1851); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1852 term; lawyer (1852-1862); died as a result from injuries sustained during the Battle of Stones River, December 31, 1862 in Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tennessee; interred, Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
