HIGGINS, Joseph, a Representative from Blair County; born, circa 1800; owner, Union Furnace (1835-1848); gubernatorial appointee, sheriff, Huntingdon County (1837-1838); owner, Portage Iron Works and nail factory; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1840, 1841 and 1849 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1842 term; not a candidate for reelection t the House for the 1850 term; commissioner, The Central Bank of Pennsylvania (1857); died, January 19, 1869 in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania; interred, Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania.
