ROSS, Samuel A., a Representative from Philadelphia County; born in the City of Sumter, Sumter County, SC, January 24, 1914; graduated, Cranford High School, 1923; graduated, Bordentown Manual Training Industrial School, 1927; insurance courses: North Carolina Mutual Insurance Training School, 1941, and, Insurance Society of Philadelphia, 1962; salesman, Progressive Life Insurance Company of New Jersey (1936-1937); reporter and columnist, New York Amsterdam News (1937-1939); agent, North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company (1939-1942); agent, Bankers Life & Casualty Company, Chicago (1943-1952); president, Ross Famous Fashions, Philadelphia (1943-1952); director, 20th Century Modeling and Charm School (1946-1952); president, Ross Insurance Agency; treasurer, 3rd Ward Democratic Executive Committee; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1975 term; unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the House for the 1977 term; died, October 23, 1990 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.
