Van VOORHIS, Dr. John Stodgell, a Representative from Washington County; born, May 8, 1823 in Monongahela, Washington County, Pa.; A.M., Washington College (now Washington & Jefferson College), 1844; M.D., Jefferson Medical College (now Sidney Kimmel Medical College), 1847; physician; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1857 term; organized, Pittsburg, Virginia and Charleston Railroad Co.; died, March 16, 1917 in North Belle Vernon, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Rehobeth Cemetery, Belle Vernon, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
