BROWN, Joseph, a Representative from Crawford County; born, April 15, 1824 in Summit Township, Crawford County, Pa.; farmer; elected, prothonotary, Crawford County (1851-1854); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1856 term; reelected to the House as an American for the 1857 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1858 term; elected, mercantile appraiser, Crawford County (2 terms); director and vice president, Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Crawford County (1885-1903); president, Farmer’s Cooperative Bank; died, December 19, 1903 in Harmonsburg, Crawford County, Pennsylvania; interred, Evergreen Cemetery, Harmonsburg, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
