SMITH, Dr. John V., a Representative from Columbia, Montour, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Wyoming Counties; born, 1805 in New York; physician; elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1844 term; elected, delegate, State Democratic Convention (1854, 1860, 1872); reelected to the House for the 1856 and 1858 terms; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1857); associate judge, Wyoming County (1864-1872); died, November 23, 1886 in Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania; interred, Gravel Hill Cemetery, Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, Pennsylvania.
