SPYKER, Joel, a Representative from Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson and McKean Counties; born, June 30, 1803 in Jonestown, Dauphin County (now Lebanon County), Pa.; teacher; farmer; elected, commissioner, Jefferson County (1841-1843, 1856-1857, 1864-1866); elected, justice of the peace, Rose Township (45 years); elected as a Democrat to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1858 term; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1859 term; elected, surveyor, Jefferson County (1853); appointed, assistant United States Marshal (1860); died, October 17, 1877 in Brookville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania; interred, Saint Johns Cemetery, Stanton, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.
