STRUTHERS, Thomas, a Representative from Crawford, Mercer, Venango and Warren Counties; born, June 6, 1803 in Trumbull County (now Mahoning County), Oh.; graduated, Jefferson College (now Washington & Jefferson College), 1823; principal, Washington Academy (1824); attorney (1826-1840); engaged, real estate; appointed, town clerk, Warren (1832-1834); contractor, Sunbury & Erie (now the Philadelphia & Erie) Railroad (1837-1862); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1857 and 1858 terms; unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1858); president, Corry National Bank (1864-1876); president, Brown & Struthers Iron works; owner, Struthers, Wells & Co., ironworks (1868); street car investor; railroad investor; river and navigation improvement investor; president, Struthers Iron Company, Struthers, Oh.
