CASTNER, Samuel Jacob, a Representative from Bedford and Somerset Counties; born, September 25, 1815 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; engaged, horse farming; appointed, justice of the peace, Middle Woodbury Township (1844-1867); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1850); unsuccessful campaign, sheriff, Bedford County (1857); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1858 term; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House for the 1859 term; harness maker; justice of the peace, Knox County, Oh. (1880); died, May 25, 1898 in Fredericktown, Knox County, Ohio; interred, Forest Cemetery, Fredericktown, Knox County, Ohio.
