STRONG, Henry King, a Representative from Philadelphia City; born, March 2, 1798 in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Ma.; B.A., Union College, 1821; teacher and principal, Pittsfield Academy; founder, Pittsfield Argus (1827); owner and editor, Harrisburg Intelligencer (1832-1837); State Librarian of Pennsylvania (1842-1845); lawyer (1845-1860); president, Washington Insurance Company; elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1853, 1854 and 1855 terms; elected, Speaker (1855); reelected to the House as a Republican to the 1860 term; died while in office, November 21, 1860 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania; interred, Woodlands Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.
