KISTLER, Samuel Jacob, Sr., a Representative from Carbon and Lehigh Counties; born, November 24, 1819 in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, Pa.; attended, Bound Brook Academy, 1841; store clerk (1839-1859); elected, justice of the peace (1848- 1890); proprietor, general store (1859-1870); appointed, auditor, surveyor, administrator and executor, Saegersville; elected, auditor, Lehigh County (1854-1857); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1860 term, not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1861 term; elected, delegate, State Republican Conventions; postmaster, United States Postal Service, Saegersville, Pa. (1871); director, The Farmers’ Mutual Union Fire Insurance Company; director, National Bank of Slatington; president, Saegersville Slate Company; died, September 15, 1890 in Saegersville, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania; interred, Heidelberg Union Cemetery, Slatington, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
