McCURDY, John, a Representative from Cumberland and Perry Counties; born, June 24, 1811 in County Londonderry, Ireland; lawyer; writer and editor, Hagerstown Herald and Torch and McConnellsburg Fulton Republican; writer, Shippensburg News; elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives as a Republican in 1858 and 1859; unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1860, 1861); clerk, printing office; gubernatorial appointee, superintendent, Commonwealth Department of Public Printing (1872-1875); died, March 2, 1880 in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania; interred, Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
