AUSTIN, James C., a Representative from Franklin and Fulton Counties; born, October 1, 1823 in Harrisonville, Fulton County, Pa.; attended, Chambersburg Academy; major, Company B, 126th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry (1862, Civil War); engaged, tanning and mercantile business (1842-1859); engaged in forwarding business (1859); proprietor, planing mill (1859-1870); home builder; elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1859 and 1860; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1861); president, Austin, Elder & Fletcher, bankers (1866-1870); engaged, shoe and hat sales (1872-1887); died, November 7, 1889 in Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania; interred, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.
