COLLINS, John M., a Representative from Fayette County; born, December 7, 1815 in Connellsville, Fayette County, Pa.; colonel, Pennsylvania Militia, Fayette County Regiment (1839-1845); tailor (1841-1854); postmaster, United States Postal Service, Connellsville (1852-1853); elected, register, recorder and clerk of the court, Fayette County (1854-1857); lawyer (1857-1901); elected as a Republican to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 1860 and 1861 terms; not a candidate for reelection to the House for the 1862 term; elected, delegate, Pennsylvania Constitution Convention (1872-1873); unsuccessful campaign, Pennsylvania State Senator (1882); unsuccessful campaign, prothonotary, Fayette County (1884); unsuccessful campaign for reelection to the House (1890, 1892); died, June 2, 1901 in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania; interred, Oak Grove Cemetery, Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.
