BALL, Gideon Johnston, a Representative from Erie County; born, March 29, 1811 in Erie County, Pa.; appointed, major, additional paymaster, United States Army (1861-1863, Civil War); silversmith; elected, clerk, city council, Erie (1836-1847); city alderman, Erie (1838-1840); elected as a Whig to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1847 and 1848; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1849); elected, Pennsylvania State Treasurer (1849-1850); appointed, chief clerk, Auditor of the United States Treasury (1851-1853); reelected as a Whig to the House in 1853 and 1854; reelected to the House as a Republican in 1855 and 1856 and 1860; not a candidate for reelection to the House (1857, 1861); gubernatorial appointee, Commission to Revise and Codify Revenue Laws of Pennsylvania (1861); engaged, real estate; farmer; died, January 10, 1886 in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania; interred, Erie Cemetery, Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.
